April 9, 2025
In April, Gwen Weedon will give us a trunk show. She will also lead our April 10 workshop, "Ocean Art Quilt."
Gwen has been Quilting for over 25 years on the Central Coast of California. Gwen started teaching Quilting workshops 20 yrs ago starting in San Luis Obispo Adult ED quilting classes, local quilt shops and many California Quilt Guilds.
Gwen is an artist and attended art schools and Long Beach State University for over 5 years in Southern California. She was a professional Graphic Artist for 10 years and won several ribbons for her quilts. Gwen started Sonshine Quilting in 2003, a longarm quilting service in San Luis Obispo.
May 7, 2025
May's guest speaker is Carol Wilhoit. She will also lead our May 8 workshop, "How Far will a Jellyroll Go?"
During forty years of quilting, Carol has become interested in making both quilts and small quilted projects such as zipper bags, tote bags, table runners and table mats. Smaller projects do not require a large investment of time or materials, and therefore provide a perfect opportunity to exercise creativity.
As a retired physician, she enjoys bringing her technical mind to quilting. She enjoys figuring out how to make the construction process easier while producing better results. She has also refined techniques for building, organizing, and using a fabric stash that make it a joy to have and to use. She enjoys free motion quilting, quilting with the walking foot, and using metallic thread for quilting.
At the Meeting
Orange Grove Quilters Guild is one of the few Southern California quilt guilds with daytime meetings. About 100 of us gather on the second Wednesday of the month to share our quilts and learn more about quilting. This is the typical meeting agenda:
8:30 a.m. Doors open at the Elks lodge. Members help themselves to coffee, tea and light snacks while checking in on friends and the latest Guild activities. This is a good time to turn in blocks for the BOM challenge, browse donated fabric and magazines for sale, sign up for a workshop or pick up a Philanthropy project to work on at home.
9:30 a.m. The Guild President opens the meeting and goes over the latest news. Committee chairs make their reports and then it's time for Show and Tell, where members share their quilt creations. More quilts are on display in the parade of Philanthropy quilts that are ready for donation.
After a short break, it's time for learning. The Guild hosts a variety of speakers throughout the year. Typically, the instructor for that month's workshop will be the featured speaker.
11:30 a.m. The meeting adjourns. Guild members are welcome to purchase lunch in the Elk's Lodge dining room.
